Bon Me in South Boston (also called Bon Me Truck) is a delicious Vietnamese take out restaurant that serves sandwiches, salads and bowls. They also serve a few appetizing sides and interesting beverages. It’s one of my favorite places to grab lunch when I’m at work.
A Little Background on Bon Me in South Boston
Bon Me was started by a husband-and-wife duo when they entered a food truck contest 5 years ago. They won the contest and started their very first Bon Me food truck. It was extremely successful and they branched out all over Boston.
My very first experience with Bon Me in South Boston was when a coworker realized that it parks behind our office building on Thursdays. Being the foodie that he is, he researched it and found that everyone really raved about it.
Our first trip outside to visit the truck was met with a line that literally wrapped around the block, this was the busiest food truck I’ve ever seen; we ended up giving up that first time, but planned to scheme better for next week.
The next week, we got out there just as the food truck arrived (11 am) and managed to get almost to the front of the line. All the scheming and planning was worth it! I had a great lunch that day.
This went on for weeks, it become one of our favorite go-to lunch food trucks and then we heard the news that Bon Me would be opening a brick and mortar restaurant in Fort Point (South Boston)! We were elated!
The First Time is Always the Most Exciting
The Innovation District (Fort Point/Seaport) is becoming a food mecca. In the year and a half that I’ve worked here, a lot of amazing restaurants have opened up. There’s also been a ton of new construction, this area is really the up-and-coming part of the city.
Anyways, one of the grand openings I was the most excited for was – you guessed it – Bon Me! It is located at 313 Congress Street, you can recognize the building by the big, beautiful arch in the front in the entrance way.
Waiting in line, I felt like a kid in a candy store!
They offer bahn mi sandwiches, rice boxes, noodle bowls and salads. You pick your meat, your dish and any extras you want on it. The menu looks daunting, but it’s actually pretty simple. They accept all major forms of payment, including, my favorite, LevelUp, which allows you to pay with your phone.
After you order, you pick up your order on the other end.
All meals are prepared in the “to go” fashion, but feel free to sit and enjoy the views of Boston.
Food!
I really like the K Town Chicken and the Spiced Rub Chicken, but I have yet to have anything there I would consider bad.
In addition to their great food, they also have some tasty drinks. I recommend you try Vietnamese Iced Coffee. It’s a little spicy, but delicious and very different from anything I’ve had before.
Here’s some pictures of a bahn mi and rice box that I’ve had there over the past few weeks:
