Barre, Massachusetts is a small, rustic town located in the central part of the state. It has many of the characteristics of a traditional New England town and is home to about 5,300 people. An interesting tidbit about Barre: originally incorporated in 1774 as “Hutchinson”, a petition was filed in 1776 to change the name of the town to “Barre” after Isaac Barré, who opposed American taxation.
